Great maritime and ecological accident occurred near Dubrovnik during early morning. Motor yacht ‘Lory’ under Italian flag burst into flames in Kobaš Bay, on the peninsula of Pelješac. The captain and one crew member were evacuated by the Harbourmaster’s ship ‘Danče’ and the police.

Yacht ‘Lory’ owned by a New Zealand national arrived with four passengers from Austria to the popular nautical spot Kobaš on the peninsula of Pelješac for a dinner.

As reported by the DD, when the fire broke out in the engine room from where the flames and dense smoke spread, captain and one crew member were on board, both Montenegrin nationals. They tried to put out the fire with fire extinguisher but unsuccessfully.

Harbourmaster’s ship ‘Danče’ and the police came to rescue and evacuation of captain and crew member. Both they and passengers that weren’t on board are unharmed.

Despite the effort to prevent it, yacht snaked and police is to determine the cause of fire.

Nevertheless, according to available information, a greater catastrophe was avoided as crew members and locals managed to drift the yacht in the middle of the channel. Otherwise, the fire would easily spread to the other boats and the village, known for its dense vegetation.
