PIRATS OF NERETVA RIVER 20th Anniversary of Traditional Boat Race

An annual traditional rowing competition gathered many at riverbanks of Neretva on Saturday 12 August 2017. 

Over 600 crew members of 30 ‘lađe’, traditional wooden boats used by the old Neretva pirates, who terrorized the area back in the 10th century, competed in 22.5 kilometres long race between Metković and Ploče down the river Neretva.

‘Maraton lađa’ as it’s called, is amateur rowing competition held the second Saturday in August.

This year champions are ‘Gusari’ from Komin, silver prize goes to ‘Argonauti’ from Bjelovar and third position is shared between ‘Stablina’ and ‘Crni put’.
