NATIONAL PARK Massive Forest Fire on the Island of Mljet

Fire fighters put the flames under control after all-night struggle. 

The wildfire broke yesterday near the Mljet National Park. County Fire Fighter Commander Stjepan Simović told DD that fire fighters worked throughout the night to contain the blaze and the fire has been put under control around 3.30 am.

Furthermore, the fire was stopped at the entrance of the National Park and it did not threaten any houses.

According to the 112 rescue centre, about nine hectares of dense pine forests, maquis has burnt. This morning 24 fire fighters went to aid with seven vehicles.
