Former US trade minister and 34 passengers died in the military airplane crash in Velji Do, Konavle on 3 April 1996. 21 years later, in memorial house Ronald Brown, Dubrovnik’s officials and other gathered to pay their respect.

’21 years has passed from that dreary, cloudy day. I remember it as I was the witness we all expected something good and nice to happen. But instead, 35 people crashed into the hill and died not far away for Dubrovnik. It was the plane of US mission and minister of trade at the time, Ron Brown was coming. They were all good men who were coming with good intentions and to help in those difficult times,’ Igor Deranja said on behalf of the City of Dubrovnik.

‘United States gravely appreciates what you have done in Dubrovnik to commemorate Ron Brown and all that he did during his final trip to this region. I want to particularly give thanks on behalf of the United States to the City, County and the Airport Authority for creating and maintaining this place of remembrance here in Rob Brown house as well as the beautiful cross at the crash site that we will visit later today,’ David Jones, from the US Embassy said.
