Labour Day is a national holiday in Croatia and is commonly celebrated in nature with barbecue and/or beans on the menu with little reference to great worker's protests in 1886.

On 1 May, workers in Chicago demanded eight hours of work, eight hours of sleep and 8 hours of free time which from today's perspective can still be something to fight for.

In Dubrovnik, majority of the population is employed in tourism and working far more than 8 hours with or without extra hours being paid.

Croatian People’s Party and Social Democratic Party have organized events and military style bean soup is given to all people as it represents workers’ dish.
