E.BENNETT WALSH 'After GoT and Star Wars I Knew Dubrovnik was Ready for Blockbuster Production'
Executive producer E.Bennett Walsh opened up to Dubrovnik Daily (DDTV) about filming in Dubrovnik and his latest project Robin Hood: The Origins.
Most relevant Internet Movie Database (abbreviated IMDb) describes E.Bennett Walsh as a producer and production manager, known for Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003) & Vol. 2 (2004) and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014).
Within the film industry Walsh is known for taking large US production in countries where no one wanted to risk it. He was one of the first US producers to set entire production in China. We were curious to know how and why he decided to film in Dubrovnik, Croatia.
‘I tend to take a lot of challenges, especially by doing Kill Bill 1 and 2 in China, it as a first big production there. I guess I see if the country is ready and because of the success of Game of Thrones and Star Wars I know we could go a little bit further with construction in Stradun and on the docks. When we incorporate it into the city of Dubrovnik, it's going to be fantastic.’

During the press conference held on Saturday, 18 February at Villa Argentina (Adriatic Luxury Hotels) he stated: ‘It’s really two reasons why we were able to bring Robin Hood to Dubrovnik. It’s the openness of the great City of Dubrovnik to let us in and to turn our dream into Nottingham and the Croatian cash incentive that made it possible for us to come down and actually create the vision Otto has come up with.’

In 2011 Croatian Government established the system of incentives for foreign productions. Until today, over 40 film and TV productions used the 20% tax deduction for costs that have been made in Croatia and with local partners.
‘It's remarkable, the people of Dubrovnik, because they are able to see the potential of what we are trying to do which sometimes can be a bit crazy and it was great that they allowed us to do it,’ Walsh commented on cooperation with Croatia production company Pakt Media and country’s officials.
Filming of 'Robin Hood: The Origins' in Dubrovnik, Croatia
‘Richard the Lionheart, who visited Dubrovnik, is incorporated in the story of Robin Hood and there are many stories here. We just need to find them. I will definitely come back. When I'm done filming Robin Hood, I'll be back in the summer,’ Walsh concluded.
